The Patriots got their second win of the 2024-2025 season in exciting fashion versus the New York Jets. The Patriots were down 22-17 with less than three minutes left in the game when
The Patriots showed a lot of heart today. The defense deserves high praise after another week full of drama and distractions. Head Coach, Jerod Mayo, challenged the defense after their loss last week calling them "soft." The Patriots defense was anything but soft today. Yes, they still allowed 112 yards rushing and 224 yards passing, but forced the Jets to settle for field goals multiple times.
The offense looked decent today. It started out shaky and settled in on the second drive. The Pats drove down the field on a 10 play 77 yard drive that took six minutes and twenty-eight seconds off the clock. Drake Maye looked phenominal. He was rushing when needed to pick up crucial first downs, and ultimatley scrambled for 17 yards and a touchdown to regain the lead. On the following drive Drake Maye was injured after sliding on an 18 yard run. It appeared that he was hit helmet-to-helmet from behind, but finished the drive. For the rest of the first half the Pats returned to looking pretty bad on offense having two three-and-outs to end the half. The game felt pretty bleak as Mayo, broke the news that Maye would be out for the rest of the game.
After coming out after halftime, the Pats forcied a punt and Marcus Jones returned the punt for 62 yards setting up the second touchdown of the day. The Pats offense looked good in the second half. They scored on three of five drives. It doesn't show in the Box score, but Rhamondre Stevenson got the run game going picking up a few crucial first downs, and Hunter Henry made some important catches.
Aside from multiple dropped passes from the receivers, I thought today was pretty good. Jacoby Brissett did exactly what he was signed to do. He showed up when the team needed him the most and delivered Patriots Nation a win against their biggest rival. Drake Maye once again showed Pats fans that with a good roster around him in the future he can be really special. There still hasn't been any update on the status of Drake Maye since Mayo ruling him out, so Pats fans are still left wondering what his timetable will look like. The Pats are now 2-6 and will be going to Tennesee next week to play and equally terrible team in the Titans at 1:00 ET.
