Drake Maye Makes NFL Debut today

Earlier this week, Drake Maye was named the starting quarterback for the Patriots. The Pats this year seem somehow worse than the 4-13 team of last year. After a week one win versus the Bengals that seemed to shock the entire NFL world, they have regressed to the team that most people believed they would be. Fast-forward to last week, and there were reports of new head coach Jerod Mayo "losing the locker room."

The Patriots have issues all over the field and now they go against a Houston Texans team that while their record is good, they have underperformed to some degree. But that's football, all that matters is winning and losing and the Texans are 4-1, with a lot of talent on the field on both sides of the ball. One of their best units is the defensive line. Pair that with the Patriots having one of the worst offensive lines in the league and that's where Drake Maye comes in. Jacoby Brissett doesn't offer the same mobility that Drake Maye provides, and I think that's probably why they decided to start him this week.

Jacoby Brissett has been as good for the Pats as you couldve asked him to. Letsm be honest Brissett wasn't asked to come in and lead this team to a Super Bowl. He is basically a bridge from this team to the future. He's basically been a punching bag or say a tackling dummy for other defenses to get some reps in.

Maye was very fun to watch in the preseason this year. All things considered, he brings an excitement to watching the Pats today that wouldn't be there if Brissett was still starting. I personally was in the camp of not playing Maye this year. It doesn't make sense to me after watching the brutal beatdown that Brissett has taken week in and week out. I hope that this move to start Maye is in good faith and not a publicity stunt or a last ditch effort to win the locker room back, if those reports are actually true.

For Now, I choose to believe that Drake Maye's debut in the red Pat Patriots uniforms will bring me a joy that I haven't exoerienced in years and that Maye, Bourne, Pop, and Polk will give us a glimpse into the future of this team.
