Patriots sign Julian Edelman to a 2-year extension

Julian Edelman will be staying in New England for the rest of his career.

The Patriots' wide receiver and Super Bowl LIII MVP inked a new two-year extension with the club this morning. According to multiple reports, the new contract includes an $8 million signing bonus and $12 million is guaranteed.

That New England chose to give Edelman an extension and a raise at 32 years old (he turns 33 tomorrow, funny enough) speaks volumes as to how he's viewed in the organization. Since becoming a full-time starter in 2013, Edelman has done nothing but produce.

He continued to do that in 2018, wracking up 850 yards and six touchdowns on 74 receptions. In the Patriots' 13-3 Super Bowl LIII victory over the Los Angeles Rams earlier this year, Edelman hauled in 10 passes for 141 yards and was the clear choice for the MVP award by the middle of the second quarter.

Edelman was set to become a free agent after this season, and this extension will likely take him to the end of his career. With Tom Brady's favorite target now locked in for a few more seasons, the Patriots can now turn their attention to getting their Jedi master signed on until he decides he wants to give other teams a chance to win a Super Bowl.
