Tom Brady explains mental error, thought Patriots had another time out

No one is perfect, and that was clearly evident in the New England Patriots’ unfortunate one-point loss to the Miami Dolphins Sunday afternoon.
The Patriots were nearing the goal line at the end of the first half but ended up with no points on the board in what turned out to be a costly mistake.
Brady took a sack on third down with the clock ticking away and no timeouts left. Instead of popping up immediately and rushing to get the field goal unit out, he stayed on the ground, time expired and the Patriots left three potential points on the board.
“Terrible play by me,” Brady said after the game. “That should never happen. I just lost track of… I thought we had one timeout. We called the one. We ran a couple plays. I was just not thinking on third down.”
Those weren’t the only potential points the Patriots missed out on, as kicker Stephen Gostkowski had an uncharacteristic day by missing both an extra point and a field goal.
