Brandin Cooks "thankful" to be a Patriot

One day after scoring the game-winning touchdown in the New England Patriots’ 36-33 win over the Houston Texans, wide receiver Branding Cooks is celebrating his 24th birthday.

Not a bad start to the week, eh?

When speaking with reporters after the game, Cooks had nothing but thanks and appreciation for the position he’s in – to score the game-winner and to get to play with two Hall of Famers (Drew Brees and Tom Brady) so early in his career.

“Thankful, thankful, thankful,” said Cooks. “There are so many people who would love to play this game, and so many who would love to be in this position. It’s a gift from God. Truly, this is a gift from God.”

Yesterday’s matchup felt like the first time this season that Cooks and Brady were on the same level, and we can expect to see a lot more of that in the future. They were connecting in a big way yesterday as the wide receiver caught five receptions for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns.

“It’s just one of the things you know playing with Tom – run the best route you can on every snap, because you never know when it’s coming to you.”

“To be honest, your brain knows you’re close. I can’t even describe to you what I did or why I did it,” Cooks said when reflecting on the final score of yesterday’s game. “I can’t take you through it. It’s just the instincts of a receiver. You know how much space you have, and it’s not much.”

Cook’s impressive toe-tapping grab to end the game marked his second touchdown on the day, and Brady's fifth.
