Rex Ryan puts Bills playoff tickets on sale
Pat Donovan, Football Insiders:
“Nah, I’m not going to say it’s a guarantee,” Ryan said. “But I guarantee you one thing: Teams aren’t going to want to play us. I can tell you that much.”
It seems Ryan, heading into his second head coaching gig has learned that it’s ridiculous to guarantee anything in the NFL, and guaranteeing a playoff spot in Buffalo, where the Bills haven’t made the playoffs since 2000 when they fell to the Tennessee Titans In the famous (or infamous if you’re in Buffalo), “Music City Miracle” game may not be the best idea.
The last time the Buffalo Bills made the playoffs, head coach Wade Phillips decided that QB Rob Johnson would be a better choice as the starter than Doug Flutie. On January 8, 2000, the Buffalo Bills met the Tennessee Titans at Adelphia Coliseum in Nashville, TN. After the Bills had taken a 16–15 lead on a field goal with 16 seconds left in the game, Titans TE Frank Wycheck threw a lateral pass across the field to Kevin Dyson on the ensuing kickoff return, who then ran 75 yards to score the winning touchdown and earn a 22–16 victory.
Rex Ryan has circled the September 20 game against the visiting Super Bowl champs on his calendar. Rex is hoping to take advantage of the substitute teacher Jimmy Garoppolo filling in for the professor, Tom Brady. The Bills face an uncertain QB situation for other reasons. Their names are Matt Cassel and E.J. Manuel.
“We’re loaded on defense. We’re loaded at the skill positions,” Ryan said. The new head coach never lacks for confidence. Rex is hoping to score while the barn door is ajar. Oddsmakers in Las Vegas have moved the over/under in wins from 8.5 to 10.5 since Rex came aboard. At present, the Bills are even with the New England Patriots. The Bills may be more interested in the June 23rd Roger Goodell - Tom Brady heavyweight bout than the Patriots.
Guarantees? We've been down this road before.
Good luck, Rex.
Happy days are here again.
