Philadelphia Eagles' Evan Mathis fits in New England

Josh Alper, ProFootballTalk:
Mathis, who turns 34 in November, missed seven games in 2014 because of a knee injury but played at the high level the Eagles were accustomed to seeing when he was healthy. Mathis is set to make $5.5 million in 2015 and $6 million in 2016 in the final two years of the deal he signed with the Eagles in 2012, numbers that should make him appealing to teams that aren’t put off by his age.

The New England Patriots are one of many teams in on the fire sale going on in Philadelphia. The Eagles have added two running backs in the past 24 hours, Ryan Matthews from the San Diego Chargers and DeMarco Murray from the Dallas Cowboys. It is highly unlikely that both backs will be on the roster after sundown. They parted ways with RG Todd Herremans, breaking up an offensive line that was a major strength of their team.

Evan Mathis is an 11 year veteran from the University of Alabama. He was a third round draft pick in 2005 by the Carolina Panthers, and has made NFL stops with the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals and the Philadelphia Eagles. His uncle is Bob Baumhower, former Miami Dolphins' great defensive end. His 2014 salary was a miniscule $2 million for a starting left guard.

Chip Kelly is the NFL's version of Monty Hall.
