Patriots sign Chung, Bolden to extensions
Earlier this morning the New England Patriots finalized contract extensions with safety Patrick Chung and running back Brandon Bolden.
Chung's extension is for three years and Bolden's is for two. More from Field Yates of ESPN.com:
The moves assure the Patriots that they will have two very solid special teams players locked up for the next couple of years. The surprise of the two has been Chung, who has thrived in his second stint with New England. Not only has Chung emerged into a core special teams player, he has also been used in blitz and sub packages, which play more to his strengths.
This season, he has 85 tackles (54 solo) and one interception.
Bolden, meanwhile, has seen some time on the field with the first-team offense and has been effective when given the opportunity. He has rushed 28 times for 89 yards and a touchdown.
Both were scheduled to hit free agency after the season. An overwhelming thought in the media and with the fans is that the deals are a precursor to a bigger move, i.e. resigning Darrelle Revis and others.
