Trent Dilfer forced to eat his words about the Patriots

Trent Dilfer has always been notorious for his harsh critique of NFL teams and players. One month ago, Dilfer (like many critics) ripped the New England Patriots, calling them "weak" after their blowout loss to Kansas City back in week 4.

Fast forward to the present, the Patriots have won 5 games in a row. Their latest victory was a 43-21 rout of the current AFC champions, the Denver Broncos.

After silencing their critics, Dilfer was forced to eat a heaping pile of crow as quoted in an ESPNBoston.com article:

I made the mistake I hate making in this job, and that’s knee-jerk reacting to what you see in real time and not thinking about who you are saying it about.

Dilfer continued to chew on his words:

What I forgot at the moment, and what I think anybody who wrote the Patriots off early forgot, is what Bill Belichick has done over his career: getting the most from the least and the best from the best. And let’s not forget, that’s what coaching is. So at its core, being a great coach is getting the most from the least and the best from the best

Nothing better than seeing a critic backpedal while enjoying the bitter taste of being wrong. To his credit, I can respect Dilfer for coming out and admitting he was wrong. However, I feel that he has not earned the credibility to criticize anybody. If you look up his stats, Trent Dilfer was a mediocre QB at best. He spent 14 years in the league and has thrown more interceptions (129) than touchdowns (113) and had 20,518 passing yards (approximately 1,465 yards/season).

Did you know that Dilfer is the only quarterback to be cut after winning the Super Bowl? Ouch that's gotta hurt! It isn't so fun when the spotlight of critique is on you is it Mr. Dilfer?

I honestly think that Trent Dilfer would be a better fit as Captain Obvious from those Hotels.com commercials. Don't take my word for it, listen for yourself.
