Shake up in the AFC East helps the Patriots

The Patriots received some breathing room in the AFC East with both the Dolphins and Bills losing during week 10. Thanks to the Detroit Lions & Kansas City Chiefs, the Patriots have a two game cushion in the division.
Words cannot describe how much of an impact these losses are to New England's chances of winning the division. Let's breakdown the playoff picture for the the three team race in the AFC East. That's right I said three team race because I think it is safe to say that the Jets have no shot at making the playoffs.
The Buffalo Bills really might have taken the worst hit by losing on Sunday. The record of their remaining opponents is 33-31. Buffalo only has two "gimme" games against the Jets & Raiders. Otherwise, the Bills have tough opponents in the Dolphins, Browns, Broncos, and Packers before wrapping up their year in Foxboro. If the defense and the play of Kyle Orton continues to improve, the Bills might have a shot at upsetting some of these teams. Buffalo certainly has an uphill battle in their future.
Prediction: The Bills will finish 3rd in the AFC East with a record of 8-8.
On the other hand, we have those pesky fish from Miami that will be in our rear view. The Dolphins defense is super scary and was one play away from beating the Lions. Let's not forget that this is the same defense that blanked the San Diego Chargers. Ryan Tannehill has silenced all of his critics about his ability to lead the team. Miami will benefit from an easier remaining schedule as they face opponents with a combined record of 33-33. After hosting the Bills in week 11, the Dolphins have four away games in a row. They will be tested during this four game stretch by Denver, Baltimore, and New England.
Prediction: The Dolphins will finish 2nd in the AFC East with a record of 9-7
Last, we have the Patriots. Talk about a team that capitalizes when the moment presents itself. Let me point out that I had faith that the Patriots would turn things around (read my previous AFC predictions article). I just never expected them to go 5-0 after losing to Kansas City. Coming off the bye, New England still has a really tough remaining schedule. Their opponents are eight games over .500 with a combined record of 36-28. If our defense keeps improving and Brady keeps rolling, I think 11 games will be all the Patriots need to win the division.
Prediction: The Patriots will finish 1st in the AFC East with a record of 11-5
