Peyton Manning won't share the spotlight with Denver backup QB

Jay Busbee, Yahoo:
The Broncos were up by more than four scores on the Oakland Raiders with more than 15 minutes to play. That's the definition of "garbage time." (And given the occasionally filthy conditions at O.Co Coliseum, a literal definition.) Osweiler sure seemed like he was prepped to go in and get a few snaps, maybe impress his lady with a Real Live NFL Touchdown.

Alas, it was not to be. Peyton plays as long as Peyton wants to play. You don't get to a thousand touchdowns by tapping out early, after all.

To be exact, it was 41-10 Denver with 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter when backup QB Brock Osweiler grabbed his helmet, and got ready to go on the field. He was to take over for the starter, Peyton Manning. "IT'S GONNA HAPPEN, MA! I'M GOING IN THE GAME"! Not so fast, Brock.

Peyton, not Denver head coach John Fox, deemed it necessary to pile up more offensive statistics against a helpless 0-8 outfit headed for 0-9. Not since the 1962 Oakland Raiders started the season 0-13 has the "silver and black" been this pathetic.

The final offensive numbers for Peyton Manning were 31 for 44 passing with five TD's and two interceptions. That must be important as he tries to win his sixth NFL MVP award.

3rd year backup QB Brock Osweiler from Arizona State has waited patiently for his turn. This was the fourth Denver game this year where the Broncos have led in the second half by 21 points. Prior to yesterday's game, Brock had thrown one NFL pass this year, and it was incomplete. He will need a lot of rest after his work in the Raiders' game where he was allowed to throw two passes for 13 yards for a QB rating of 47.9. Brock will need to ice down that right arm after all that activity.

With eight minutes 46 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter in London on Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys led 31-7 against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars. On third down and 10 from the Dallas 11 yard line, Dallas QB Tony Romo was sacked by Jacksonville DT Sen'Derrick Marks for a five yard loss. Tony was playing with two broken bones in his back. In Jacksonville's lone victory of the season, they scored 24 points. Dallas was fearful the 1-8 Jaguars could score four times in the final nine minutes.

The Arizona Cardinals have lost QB Carson Palmer to a noncontact injury.

Maybe the Denver Broncos can schedule the Washington Generals so Peyton Manning can break every record, ever. Denver should be careful what they wish for.
