Don Jones released by the Patriots; claimed by Doplhins off waivers

Don Jones 2014 season has come full circle, as he is once again back in Miami after a relatively productive stretch as a Patriots. In a somewhat surprising move, Jones was released by the Patriots on Thanksgiving day, without a corresponding roster move.

Jones is a defensive back whose primary role came as a core special teamer, and had made some nice plays this season at the gunner position covering punts for the Patriots.

Some thought the Patriots would be looking to stash Jones on their pracitce squad, but Miami squandered any chance of that happening when they claimed him off of waivers- which is exactly what the  Patriots did in September when the Dolphins waived him.

With Jones playing well in his role and not working through any known injuries, some have speculated the release may have been related to an off-field issue. Jones drew criticism and was suspended by the Dolphins in April, after he tweeted "Horrible" and "OMG" in response to the St. Louis Rams drafting Michael Sam.

In total, Jones had six tackles as a Patriots, and was a contributing member of what has been a stellar special teams unit this season.
