Patriots dig deep in win over the Buffalo Bills
The New England Patriots dominance over the Buffalo Bills continued. QB Tom Brady improved his record against the Bills to 23-2. This is the third most wins by a QB over one team. Former Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre had 27 wins over the Detroit Lions in his career. In three years, Tom Brady will own that record, too.
This was the first game the Buffalo Bills played under new ownership. The new owner, Terry Pegula thanked the fans in a pregame ceremony. The game was being televised by FOX Sports which marked the first AFC East contest viewing in 21 years by the network.
There was major confusion with 14 seconds left in the first half after the Bills took over at their own 32 yard line following a 32 yard punt by Patriots punter, Ryan Allen. After an 11 yard run, Buffalo RB C.J. Spiller fumbled and the ball was recovered by DE Zach Moore. Patriots QB Tom Brady completed a 6 yard pass to WR Julian Edelman. K Stephen Gotkowski converted the 53 yard field goal for a 13-7 lead. This was one yard short of his career long.
It took until Week 6 for Patriots WR Brian Tyms to get involved. His first play on the field in the first quarter was an incompletion on a long pass from QB Tom Brady. Two and a half minutes into the second half had a different outcome. A 43 yard TD reception in triple coverage gave Brian his first NFL score.
A penalty early in the fourth quarter charged to OT Jordan Dewey took a TD pass from QB Tom Brady to TE Rob Gronkowki off the scoreboard. Just over one minute later, the points were back on the scoreboard on a Brady to Lafell connection.
Buffalo refused to go quietly with a touchdown and two point conversion from QB Kyle Orton to WR Robert Woods making the score, 30-22.
New England converted a third and 16 on a 17 yard pass from Tom Brady to Rob Gronkowski with under four minutes remaining. This put Tom over the 300 passing yard mark for the first time this season. A 56 yard TD pass from Brady to Brandon Lafell completed the Patriots scoring for a 37-22 final score.
The Patriots are now 26-3 under head coach Bill Belichick against the Buffalo Bills since 2000.
We're on to the New York Jets
