Bold prediction week 1

We will be running a new weekly "bold predictions" series, that will predict all of the out of the ordinary things to happen that nobody expects. A lot of you may not agree with these predictions, but thats why they are bold predictions.

Bold Prediction: Patriots pitch a shutout in week one.

The bold prediction for week 1 against the Miami Dolphins is that the Patriots completely come out and dominate the Dolphins defensively and do not allow a single point. They will allow less then 200 total yards on defense, and prove their dominance.

What makes me think that they could be able to dominate the Dolphins in this way?

The biggest reason is the addition of Darrelle Revis. He will give the Patriots so much versatility in their defense. They will be able to get creative, and aggressive on defense. Taking more risks with blitzes will allow the Patriots to put more pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Devin McCourty will be able to play a true centerfield position and ball hawk. His interceptions will go up this year because he will not have to worry about one side of the field and will be able to watch the quarterbacks eyes and make plays on the ball.

Chandler Jones will be able to attack the quarterback like he never has before. Quarterbacks will have to hold on to the ball longer and will allow Jones to get to them and make moves on big offensive lineman. Jones and Ninkovich will be able to pin their ears back and get after the quarterback this season.

If the Patriots can sure up their run defense with Wilfork and Mayo back in the middle they will be able to take the next step into being an elite defense. Mayo will be able to focus a lot more on the run with Revis behind him, and with Collins and Hightower having another year of maturity and experience under their belt.

Overall, the Patriots are much more talented and experienced defense then they were a year ago. Look for them to come out and exert their dominance on the Dolphins in week one and not allow a single point and no more then 200 total yards on offense.
