Bill Belichick opens up about Revis, pros/cons of matching DB and receiver

Bill Belichick may not have ever been short on compliments for All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis, but he rarely dishes out anything more than standard Belichick lingo: 'He's a good player. Glad to have him on our team. Hopefully he performs well...' and so on. In a semi-rare occasion a couple days ago, the Patriots head coach opened up a bit on the new defensive back and what he means to the team exactly:
Revis' professionalism has been one of, if not his single most complemented attributes since he joined the Patriots. What is new here is that Belichick actually spoke of some of the benefits and risks of using a defensive back in strict one-on-one coverage with the an opposing team's receiver. Thus far, the Patriots have primarily kept Revis on one side of the field, regardless of where their opponents top receiver was lined up.

While with the Jets, Revis was traditionally used as a lock-down corner. He began making a name for a himself by trapping some of the league's premier wide receivers on 'Revis Island', where they essentially 'disappeared' for the entire game. With the Patriots however, the term 'Revis Hemisphere' has been coined and is starting to gain some popularity. Though #24 makes his official Patriots debut this upcoming Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, he has looked spectacular throughout the preseason and training camp.

As for Revis' opinion on his new coach, the word 'genius' has to be a recurring theme:
"He's a genius. I feel he's a genius. . . His experience is overwhelming, and I think everyone on this team appreciates what he’s done and what he’s going to continue to do. But at the same time, it’s great to have his football smarts along with great players on this team to where we can team up and do something really great this year."
