NFL says they'll keep throwing flags, despite every single person ever hating it
"So I've thrown 52 flags so far." "HA! I've thrown 77, Goodell will reward me handsomely." |
Well, for those who have hated the slow, tedious, almost unwatchable show that has been the preseason so far, you best be getting used to it.
The NFL is planning on continuing slowly ruining the game by calling every foul they see and emphasizing illegal contact. Here’s what Dean Blandino, the NFL’s vice president of officiating, had to say:
“The way the game’s being officiated now is the way it’s going to be officiated when the season begins. We have to remain consistent. I knew we’d see a spike in calls when we put out these points of emphasis. But coaches adjust, and players adjust.”
Well, the NFL is making a statement, and also making unwatchable football. In our last preseason game, quite honestly every other play got flagged for some sort of stupid call. And it made the game so unbelievably horrible to watch! It was jerky and don’t flow evenly because neither team could ever get into a rhythm because refs were just chucking flags all over the field. If each ref had an endless supply of flags and never picked up the flags they threw, the field would have been solid yellow by the end of the game. BELIEVE ME!
I honestly don’t quite understand the reasoning for the NFL’s obsession with calling as many penalties as possible, other than the fact that they want to coddle wide receivers and make sure the mean men who play defense don’t hurt them.
And this isn’t just a fan thing! The commentators at the end of last game were constantly talking about how ridiculous all these calls were. Even NFL players have come out and said that the amount of flags being thrown are stupid:
Browns CB Joe Haden on the NFL's defensive crackdown: "This is crazy. Even DeSean (Jackson) said, 'These are bad calls!'"

DESEAN JACKSON THINKS TOO MANY FLAGS ARE BEING THROWN! That’s gotta tell you something.
Entering today, 29 illegal contact penalties accepted in 22 NFL preseason games in 2014... 38 accepted in 256 reg. season games all last yr.

NFL, I beg you, stop being stupid ostriches with your heads buried in the sand. Its time to start paying attention to what the fans and people and players have to say and fix yourself! Seriously, this is just getting ridiculous.
GAH!
Also, if the NFL is set on all this flag throwing crap, at least make it entertaining:
New idea for penalties in the @nfl: refs throw the flags AT the offender. Imagine Sherman getting pelted w/ flags for defensive holding
