Malcolm Butler headlines top undrafted free agents

The Patriots are always searching for talent anywhere they can find it, and they may have found three diamonds in the rough in this years undrafted free agent rookie class. If the Patriots find two or three undrafted rookie free agents that make the 53 man roster, or the practice squad it is a win for the Patriots coaching staff. It is always interesting to see what kind of positions that they want to try to bolster with rookie free agents and they may have added some depth to the defensive back field, tight end corps, and offensive backfield.

The first player that is opening eyes in training camp is Malcolm Butler. He is a 24 year old cornerback from West Alabama. Butler weighs in at 5'11" 190 pounds. During training camp the Patriots have primarily used him on the outside, but he has shown an interest in learning to cover in the slot and do whatever he needs to do to get on the field. During the first preseason game against the Redskins he started on the outside opposite Brandon Browner and it will be a chance for the Butler to showcase his ability.

The next player is someone that is a physical specimen. Justin Jones weighing in at 6'8" 275 pounds is a monster at tight end. With the lack of tight end depth Justin Jones benefits from having a big body and can really help himself during camp if he can show consistent hands and blocking. The last undrafted rookie to keep an eye out for is RB Stephen Houston. The 6 foot 225 pound back out of Indiana, will look similar to LeGarrette Blount. He is a big physical back that runs with power and drags defenders downy he field. He has a big frame and is a solid pass blocker. His biggest down fall is that with his big frame he lacks elusiveness and is a one cut back. He is a solid receiver and he will most likely be a practice squad player with the Patriots having an eye on the future for him.
