It is never too early to pay attention to possible Patriot players of the future and with college football starting this week here are some players you should catch this weekend (assuming you aren’t busy with a fantasy draft). With a lack of depth behind Gronk and the future of Ridley in question here are some possible tight end and running back prospects you should keep an eye on.
Jake McGee, TE, Florida: McGee was a Cavalier for three years and is using his last year of eligibility to play for Will Muschamp in the swamp. Though McGee has great athletic ability his numbers may not be impressive this year because of newly hired offensive coordinator Kurt Roper instituting a new offense and QB Jeff Driskel being more impressive running than throwing the ball. McGee could be yet another Gator to be drafted by Belichick like Easley and Halapio. The Gators host the Idaho Vandals this week at 7:00pm ET and can be seen on ESPNU or WATCH ESPN.
Tyler Kroft, TE, Rutgers: Kroft is an interesting prospect who earned first team all conference in his sophomore year. Should he elect to forgo his senior year Kroft will be an enticing prospect for any team needing a receiving Tight End. Kroft will also be showcasing his talents against Big 10 opponents as Rutgers enters it’s inaugural season in the historic conference.
Ben Koyack, TE, Notre Dame: This highly touted high school prospect only started in six games for the Irish last season but averaged 17 yards per catch. With Troy Niklas now playing in the NFL look for Koyack to show off his ability and generate draft buzz in South Bend. The Irish play Rice at home and you can watch them on NBC, 3:30pm ET.
TJ Yeldon, RB, Alabama: With his elite speed Yeldon looks to follow into the footsteps of former Bama backs Ingram and Richardson. If he works on his fumbling issues (5 during this 2013 season) Yeldon could be an great back to lead any team. The Rolling Tide host the Mountaineers at 3:30pm ET and if the game isn't broadcasted on your local ABC channel check ESPN2 or WATCH ESPN.
Jeremy Langford, RB, Michigan State: Langford had a great 2013 season with over 1,400 rushing and according to Dane Brugler
Langford really shines in areas where most young backs struggle like pass protection, reliability in the screen game and also the ability to get stronger and better as the game goes on.Look to see Langford lead the Spartans against Jacksonville State on the Big 10 Network at 7:30pm.
Corey Grant, RB, Auburn: Grant will be looking to take over the runningback position left by the departure of Tre Mason. Some may be turned off from drafting Grant due to the no huddle option offense the Tigers run, however that style didn't give the Rams any hesitation when they drafted Mason earlier this year. You can watch the War Eagle take on SEC rival Arkansas on the SEC Network or on WATCH ESPN at 4:00pm ET.
