On the Bubble: Ryan Wendell center of attention
Tom Brady is back to pass. He is well protected in the passing game by 6’2” 300 lb. center, Ryan Wendell. The sixth year starter from Fresno State, has the ability to play guard as well. This is very helpful to Offensive Coordinator, Josh McDaniels.
Ryan played at Fresno State under the watchful eye of offensive line guru, Pat Hill. The Patriots used a first round pick in 2005 on OG Logan Mankins from Fresno State. That has worked out brilliantly. We will not be going to the well for a third time because Pat Hill was let go after the 2011 season. We were able to get what we needed before they closed the door.
Ryan struggled with the running game in 2013. There is stiff competition along the offensive line with three draft choices in 2014 4th round selections at OC in Bryan Stork and 6th round selection, OG Jon Halapio, both from the University of Florida. Cameron Fleming was also selected in the 4th round as an OT from Stanford. The heat is on. The pressure is on Ryan to hold off the youngsters. Old and wily may not be enough for a seventh season with the New England Patriots.
