Brian Hoyer reportedly outplaying Johnny Manziel at Browns camp

Longtime Tom Brady back-up Brian Hoyer finally stepped into the limelight last season in Cleveland, starting in three games. Hoyer played well during that span-completing 57 of 96 passes for 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. The Browns won the first two games Hoyer started, however he was lost for the season in Week 6 when he tore his ACL in a game against the Bills.

Between then and now, Cleveland drafted one of the most hyped-up college football players of all time in Johnny Manziel. Despite having not yet thrown an NFL pass, Manziel has dominated national headlines, mainly revolving around his hard-partying lifestyle. Manziel has defended his choices and assured his detractors his play on the field will never suffer as a result of his actions off of it.

According to NFL writer Jason La Canfora, Hoyer has outplayed Manizel by a significant margin so far at Browns camp. That being said, it is the first week of his rookie year, so to some extent it is expected he is not competing at or above the level of a veteran quarterback.

Whether or not Manziel can beat out Hoyer for the starting job, and how long it will take, will certainly be one of the more intriguing stories of this upcoming NFL season. Hoyer, who attributes much of his personal development to Tom Brady, is no pushover and will give Johnny Football a run for his money.
