Aaron Dobson had screw put into foot in March; has no timetable for return

Last season, Aaron Dobson showed flashes of being the big, talented, playmaking receiver the team foresaw him as when they drafted him in the 2nd round of the 2013 draft. In 12 games played, Dobson had 37 receptions for 519 yards and 4 touchdowns. But he was hobbled at the end of season as a result of a foot injury he suffered in Week 12 vs. the Broncos.

Dobson missed weeks 13-15 as a result of the injury, and was not very effective when he returned for the playoffs. More information about the injury and it's seriousness has been emerging in recent weeks after Dobson was placed on the preseason PUP list and has not been participating in any serious training camp activities.

Boston Herald Patriots beat writer Jeff Howe has today shed more light on the situation, revealing that when Dobson had the surgery in March, he had a screw placed in his foot and didn't even begin running until earlier this month.

Obviously this is tough news for the Patriots offense, with many having pegged Dobson as making a major leap from Year 1 to Year 2 and emerging as a serious threat on the outside. As of now, all signs point to Dobson starting the regular season on the PUP list, which will put more pressure on Tom Brady and the offense to find other ways to move the ball.
