Rex Ryan makes Tebow joke to defend Eric Decker, gets joke wrong

"Hehehe, I'm pretty f*cking hilarious" (photo via nydailynews.com)

As we all know, the Jets made a decent sized splash this offseason signing ex-Bronco receiver Eric Decker. Well, OTAs are starting up and the general public wants to know if Decker - now that he’s not coupled with Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker, Julius Thomas and, oh yea that Hall of Fame quarterback - can be a number one receiver.

Well Rex Ryan certainly thinks so:
"[Decker] did catch eight touchdown passes when [Tim] Tebow was the quarterback. Hey, that's pretty impressive.”

This is hilarious for a multitude of reasons.

First, Rex is making fun of Tebow, proving yet again the Jets had no plan whatsoever when they traded for Tebow a couple seasons ago. Seriously, the Jets gave something back to the Broncos for Tebow. Even if it was just a handshake, the Broncos won that deal.

Second, Rex thinks Eric Decker is a number one receiver. He’s not. That’s going to be shown very quickly. Decker is a solid receiver, don’t get me wrong, but there is a big difference between playing with DT, Wes, Julius AND Peyton Fricking Manning and playing with… Michael Vick? Who else do the Jets have?

And finally, my favorite reason of them all: Rex is wrong. Decker didn’t catch eight touchdown passes from Tebow. Yes, in 2011 Decker had 8 touchdown catches, but four of those came from the ageless arm of Kyle Orton. Decker caught four passes from Tebow in 2011 and one at the end of the 2010 season. So doing some simple math shows us that Decker, in his career with Tebow, caught 5 TD passes, not 8.

Does this really matter? No, but it’s always fun to point out the stupidity that is the Jets. Good luck this season New York Buttfumbles.
