Aaron Dobson won't be ready for OTAs

Patriots sophomore receiver Aaron Dobson will have a lot of pressure on him this upcoming year.

After a lukewarm rookie season, a lot more will be expected of Dobson in his second year. For no other reason than the team will have to depend on him quite a bit, as really the only big deep threat on the roster.

Before any of that happens, he'll have to get healthy. Dobson underwent foot surgery in March and won't be ready for OTAs.

Nick Underhill, MassLive.com:
The New England Patriots wide receiver, who underwent surgery in March to repair a stress fracture in his foot, is not currently expected to be ready in time to take part in organized team activities, which begin May 27, according to a source.

It is not a surprising development since Dobson's projected recovery time was 2-3 months. After undergoing surgery on March 9, OTAs would put him on the early end of that timetable. If Dobson misses all of the OTAs, the next key event on New England's offseason calendar is minicamp, which begins June 17.

It's a shame but, as noted, not surprising. This may allow new receivers Brandon LaFell and seventh round pick Jeremy Gallon to get some additional reps in OTAs. It certainly hurts Dobson though, as the more time he has on the field the better. Of course, his roster spot isn't expected to be in danger regardless. He did however struggle with the foot last season, so hopefully the surgery makes this a non issue for the 2014 campaign.

Dobson had 37 catches for 519 yards and four touchdowns last season in 12 games.

While recovering, Aaron's been catching up on some quality TV.
