Patriots have reached out to Steve Smith
Carolina receiver Steve Smith was released today. The Ravens are said to be heavily interested, but so are the Patriots.

Smith had 64 catches for 745 yards and 4 TDs last season with Carolina. It was a decline in production, and that coupled with his $7 million cap hit meant the end of his career long stint with the Panthers.
Smith is only 5'9" but has made a name for himself playing bigger than his stature. He's also a great yards after the catch player, something the Patriots really haven't had since Welker in his hey day.
