Houston Texans release Owen Daniels, potential tight end target for Patriots
In a somewhat expected move, the Texans have reportedly released stud tight end Owen Daniels.
Daniels would have carried a $6.25 million cap hit into 2014. At 31 years old with a long history of injuries, that was too much for the Texans to commit to.

Daniels made our list of 5 potential cap casualties the Pats could sign on offense back in early February.
Daniels has put together many solid seasons for the Texans, and could be a great option as a pass catcher for the Pats both alongside Gronk and while he is out. Daniels had one of his best seasons in 2012, catching 62 passes for 716 yards and 6 touchdowns (a career high). Unfortunately he played in just five games in 2013, despite looking like he would have another solid season (24 catches, 252 yards, 3 TDs). Of course relying on Daniels to fill in for Gronk is a risky propostion, seeing as Daniels hasn't played a full season since 2008.
Still, the Pats have a glaring need at that position and if Daniels is looking for a team to contend for a championship with, the Pats may be a good fit.
