Free Agency Recap: DRC chooses Giants over Jets

As promised, here's our daily recap of yesterday's free agent activity.

  • The biggest story of the day was CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie picking the Giants over the Jets. Rodgers-Cromartie was one of the best players left on the free agent market, and would've been a perfect fit for Rex Ryan's preferred press-man scheme. Instead, he'll join Walter Thurmond III and Quentin Demps as new additions to the Giants secondary. The G-men also added former Denver return specialist Trindon Holliday.
  • The Raiders stayed busy, adding former Packer WR James Jones and former G Kevin Boothe. Gotta feel for Jones here; not only did he only manage to get 3 years, $11.3 million on the market (aka Brandon LeFell money), but he's going from catching passes from Aaron Rodgers to hoping his team can win the Matt Schaub sweepstakes.
  • Unfazed by losing Jones, the Packers added DT Letroy Guion and re-signed RB James Starks. Guion visited with the Pats and was likely considered an option if the team cannot work something out with Vince Wilfork.
  • The Patriots made the signings of CBs Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner official but otherwise made no official moves. They did host WR Kenny Britt on a visit, which didn't culminate with a contract offer but did (hopefully) prompt some positive vibes from Britt. The former first round pick will be heading to Washington next, and has emerged as a possibility to fill a desperate need at WR in Carolina. He's also visited with the Rams (who are coached by his former coach in Tennessee, Jeff Fisher) in addition to the Pats. Stay tuned.
  • The Cowboys signed Brandon Weeden to be Tony Romo's backup, but could be on the verge of bigger moves. They are meeting with both DE Jared Allen and DT Henry Melton.
  • The Redskins signed on for another year of bad angles and dangerous hits, keeping S Brandon Meriweather on a one year deal. They're also talking to former Pittsburgh S Ryan Clark.
  • Finally, the Saints made a nice move, re-signing RT Zach Strief to a five year deal. Strief was the top ranked right tackle in 2013 on Profootballfocus.
