Details released in Revis contract, team has option for 2015
New details emerged in Darrelle Revis's contract with the Patriots. It's a one year deal, but it appears that the team has an option to retain him in 2015.
Darrelle Revis' deal with #Patriots includes an option for 2015 at $20M, including a $12 roster bonus.

Revis got a $10M signing bonus and has a $1.5M gtd base salary for 2014. Another $500K available in per-game roster bonuses.

If #Patriots exercise option before end of 2014 league year, he'd get a $12M roster bonus April 1, 2015 and have a base of $7.5M in '15.

Because there's the option on Revis' deal, I believe that splits his cap hit, and makes his cap hit $6.5 million for 2014.

The per-game bonuses are counted on the cap. So Darrelle Revis' cap number for 2014 will be $7 million, with $5 million to carry into '15.

$20 million is a lot, but as Breer points out it keeps hi cap hit down for 2014. It also gives the the Patriots to come to terms on an extension with Revis so that they don't necessarily have to pay that $20 million out.
