Patriots promote practice squad linebacker Ja'Gared Davis; sign receiver Reggie Dunn
With Brandon Spikes placed on season-ending injured reserve yesterday, the Patriots had an open roster spot to fill. According to a report from NESN, they've filled it by promoting linebacker Ja'Gared Davis from the practice squad.
An undrafted rookie from SMU, Davis spent training camp with the Houston Texans, but he was not able to survive their final round of cuts. The Patriots swooped shortly after to sign Davis to their practice squad, which he's been a member of all season minus a Week 5 promotion to the active roster for special teams duties.
If active, Davis will provide emergency depth behind linebackers Donta' Hightower, Dane Fletcher and Jamie Collins.
The Patriots also had to fill Davis' spot on the practice squad. After some initial confusion as to who was wearing #84 at practice today, we finally have an answer.
The new #Patriots WR is Reggie Dunn, a 5-10 undrafted rookie from Utah who has been with the Steelers, Packers, Browns and Dolphins

At 5-10, 178 with a 4.22 40 yard dash, Dunn's physical measurables are comparable to Colts receiver TY Hilton, whose role he surely will be playing for the scout team this week. If needed, he could also provide a spark in the return game, as he holds the NCAA records for kick return touchdowns in a season (4), 100 yard kickoff returns in a career (5) and 100 yard kickoff returns in a single game (2).
