LeGarrette Blount wins FedEx Ground NFL player of the week
While LeGarrette Blount will certainly not be putting "FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week" on his resume when he hits free agency at the conclusion of this season, it is still nice that he was recognized as an integral part of the Patriots win against the Bills in Week 17 on Sunday.
Maybe a year from now, a look back at the 2013-14 Patriots' schedule might show a harmless 34-20 win against Buffalo to close out another 12-4 season. But the win was significant in that it locked up New England as the number two seed in the AFC. In the torrential downpour of that Sunday afternoon, Blount gashed the Bills defense for 189 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns. He also returned two kicks for 145 yards, leading to another field goal and touchdown.
So while teams this off-season might overlook the FedEx award, they should certainly take notice to the season Blount has put together in New England after being considered an also ran in Tampa Bay. It might be cliche to say, but it's absolutely true: LeGarrette Blount is the latest player to drink from the New England Patriots' "career fountain of youth".
