Patriots have no idea when Devin McCourty will come back

Patriots starting safety Devin McCourty suffered a concussion in embarassing fashion last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Going for a tuckle, his head bounced off of Ravens' tight end Ed Dickson's butt, leaving McCourty to stammer on the field and eventually be helped off with a concussion.

He hasn't been practicing all week, and won't play today, but when will he play?

Boston Herald:
Safety Devin McCourty won’t play today because of a concussion, and there is still no definitive timetable for his return, according to a source. It’s the latest difficult loss for the Patriots defense, as McCourty was viewed as a Pro Bowl snub.

The lack of a return date has more to do with the nature of the injury than anything else. It’s certainly possible McCourty could pass a battery of concussion tests in time to return to practice as early as this week, but again, his status will continue to be a day-by-day assessment.

It's the latest in a string of significant losses for the Patriots on the defensive side of the ball. As the Herald notes many viewed McCourty to be having his best season yet at the safety position.

The Patriots look to lock up a bye week with a win today, which would greatly help the chances that McCourty returns in time for their next game.
