Bill Belichick asked Aqib Talib for input on trading for Blount
Hands up if you thought LeGarrette Blount would have a bigger impact than Jeff Demps after the trade between the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? OK, keep your hands up if you thought Blount would outshine Demps on Special Teams this year? Yeah, didn't think so.
Bill Belichick has pulled off another masterstroke. He took a flyer on an Olympic sprinter, which failed, then turned it into a player who might just sum up the Patriots 2013 season. It doesn't mattter what challenge you throw Blount, he'll just bulldoze it over and make the necessary plays to win games.
Blount was formerly just another pat of the Patriots running back group, but over the last few weeks he's turned into the feature back on the offense and even managed to get 2 huge kick returns in Sunday's bye-week clinching win over the Buffalo Bills.
However, this might not have been possible if it wasn't for Cornerback Aqib Talib.
Talib and Blount spent time together in Tampa, describing him as his "best friend" in football. When asked about Belichick's comments, the Pro Bowler said:
Well, Talib knew something we didn't. Most fans weren't happy (myself included) when Blount was on kick offs at the beginning of the year. We were expecting Blount to be the guy to close out games, get us 3/4 yards a carry to burn out the clock. But with Stevan Ridley's fumbles once again an issue and Shane Vereen out for 10 weeks at the beginning of the year, Blount has had to do most of the heavy lifting.
It looks as though Blount has embraced that heavy lifting, not only by getting the tough yards, but by producing game changing plays like his two touchdowns against Buffalo. Long may the Blount Force continue to destroy NFL defenses.
Though, knowing the 2013 Patriots, he'll get himself hurt in the bye week he earned for the team. Fingers crossed he'll be 100% come Saturday, January 11th.

“I think definitely an assist on this one has to go to our assistant pro personnel director – Talib — who I talked to before we traded for LeGarrette, and everything he said about him was absolutely right,” Belichick said, smiling. “He’s a good football player who loves to play, works hard and is a team player; great guy for the team in the locker room. He’s been all those things.” Source: nesn.com
