The defense did it's part, but Tom Brady and the Patriots offense were unable to help them out as the Patriots lost their first game of the season, 13-6.
Things got interesting late, as a 53 yard catch and run from Aaron Dobson set up the Patriots first red zone opportunity late in the fourth quarter. The drive stalled at the one yard line, leading to a Stephen Gostkowski field goal to make it 13-6 Cincinnati.
Another stop by the Patriots defense wound up giving Tom Brady the ball one more time with 2 minutes left in the game. However the Bengals defense (aided by pouring rain) made one final stop, as an Adam Jones interception sealed the game in the final minute.
Brady was 18-38 for 197 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. The no touchdowns is significant, as the game snapped Brady's 52 game streak of consecutive games with a touchdown. Brady's streak is second all-time to Drew Brees, who's 54 game streak was snapped last season.
