Danny Amendola recovering ahead of schedule
The Patriots receiving core finally took a big step forward on Sunday, as rookies Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson stepped up against a very good secondary.
After the trials and tribulations of the past couple weeks, and all the heat the Patriots receiving core has gotten, it's easy to forget that they do have one proven and talented receiver - Danny Amendola.
Amendola has struggled with injuries over his career, and it's been no exception this year either. He suffered a groin injury during preseason, played through it in week 1 and has been out ever since. Apaprently the team could get their Wes Welker replacement back much sooner than expected.
"Normal recovery time, even without surgery, is anywhere from two to six weeks," writes Yahoo's Les Carpenter. "League sources said Amendola is healing faster than that, at a pace closer to three to four, which means he might play as soon as next Sunday at Atlanta."
Apparently the way that Amendola suffered the injury, rupturing the tendon in his groin (ouch..), eliminated the need for surgery and thus dramatically increases his chances of playing sooner. The receiver was practicing on a limited basis last week.
While Tom Brady struggled immensely to get on the same page as his receiver through the first couple weeks, he largely had a bit of instant chemistry with Amendola. The two connected on several key passes late in the win over Buffalo. Amendola even earned your vote for the Week 1 Road to MetLife Stadium MVP.
Recently he's been an afterthought as the offense has come under fire. However, if the rookies continue to improve, Gronk and Vereen return, and Amendola can stay healthy the rest of the year (big if) the Patriots offense just might be dangerous once again.
