Tim Tebow released by Jets but won't play Tight End. Ruled out for Patriots?
With the news that the Jets have finally released Tim Tebow, New England's name is coming up a lot again.
The Patriots and Tim Tebow seem to always be linked, and there's a few good reasons why.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick and former Florida coach Urban Meyer are good friends, and Belichick always liked to draft players that come at the recommendation of his good friends (see: NFL Draft, 2010). So, that's where the Patriots-Tebow ties start to sprout from.
Furthermore, prior to the draft the Patriots actually hosted Tim Tebow. Belichick and other Patriots personnel took Tebow out to dinner in the North End in what turned out to be an event that everyone heard about. Smoke screen? Perhaps. It was enough to spook then former and now current Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to draft Tebow in the first round for Denver.
With McDaniels now being back in New England, we see how things may have come full circle. We've already seen the Patriots bring in players from McDaniels' former teams at, one would assume, the behest of McDaniels himself. Greg Salas, Brandon Lloyd, even Michael Hoomanawanui have all come in from McDaniels' last stint in St. Louis. Surprisingly, only Hoomanwanui is still around.
So, one would think that when the QB McDaniels surprisingly drafted in the first round is now available, he might urge Belichick to sign him too.
Obviously, Tebow would not be pushing Tom Brady for his job. One would assume that if Tebow is on the Patriots, it probably wouldn't even be as a QB at all. One thing's been made clear by Tebow though, he won't play tight end.
Jets had granted Tim Tebow permission this off-season to seek a trade. More than one team asked if were willing to play TE, but he was not.

If Tebow is still wanting to play quarterback, you can probably cross him off the list. However, if he's willing to play a tight end/h-back role than the Patriots would absolutely have to be interested. Really, the only concern with Tebow in that scenario is the media attention, but that's something that the Patriots are adept at squashing. How much did you hear from Ochocinco while he was here? Not much. If Tebow puts on navy blue, expect it to be the same way.
Lost in all of the ESPN non stop coverage, God stuff, and horrible looking throws, is the fact that Tim Tebow is actually a talented football player.
Is he a good quarterback? That's certainly up for debate, and it's one that is pretty worn out by now.
However, you can't deny the guy's strength when he runs. He's especially great on goal line runs. The way you can tell? The whole word knows what play they are going to run and they still couldn't stop it. It's that ability that the Jets were trying, and failing, to get out of Tebow. But, you put that kind of runner with one of the most inventive minds in football today? I think it might work out a little better.
