Say it ain't so DeAngelo...
Veteran defensive back DeAngelo Hall will reportedly stay put in Washington, agreeing with the Redskins one a one year, $2.25 million deal. This news comes out just under a month after Hall was released from the 'Skins as a cap-space casualty. On the eve of the first day of Free Agency, Hall and the team failed to restructure the contract, which scheduled Hall to make $8 million. He was then released, but after failing to sign with another team he decided to take less pay and stay put.
I may have been one of the few that seriously was dying for the Patriots to bring this guy in. After the team signed CB Aqib Talib to a one year deal, I figured the chances of Hall coming to Foxboro were dashed. Still, I kept some hope that the veteran would join the Pats for a veteran role.
Realistically, keeping Talib and Kyle Arrington won't fix this pass defense. Yeah, it's a little bit better, but we can't depend on Talib to do everything himself. I absolutely love the signing of safety Adrian Wilson, but pass defense hasn't been his strong suit over the past few years. I personally thought that DeAngelo Hall was the kind of guy that the Patriots could have seriously utilized and he could bring some (amazing) veteran experience to the table. I guess the Pats have other plans.
