Patriots are open to trading Jeff Demps
Olympic sprinter Jeff Demps got fans' hearts beating faster than his 100m time when he signed with the Patriots last offseason. Unfortunately for him, the team and all of us, the world class sprinter never played in a regular season game. Now, a month after Demps announced how his loyalty to track & field would cause him to miss a large portion of the upcoming NFL season, reports are surfacing that the Patriots are open to offers for the speedy specialist.
After signing Pro Bowl return specialist Leon Washington, the Patriots have less need for Demps. His skills as a running back also do not seem so necessary due to the emergence of Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley. After basically paying Demps $400,000 last year only to have him on IR all season, the team is apparently open to moving him.
With football being second behind track on Demps' list of priorities, it is not shocking that the Patriots are willing to ship him somewhere else. What the team looking for in return has yet to be determined.
