Patriots acquire LeGarrette Blount from Tampa Bay, in exchange for Jeff Demps and a 7th round pick
So, the inevitable has happened. The New England Patriots have gotten rid of Jeff Demps.
So, this means the Patriots lose the 229th pick of the Draft, and get rid of Jeff Demps. In exchange, they get LeGarrette Blount, a 3rd RB to add to Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen.
The departure of Demps has been coming for a while. He stated that he wanted to do track as well as football, and that was never going to happen in New England. The Patriots also picked up Leon Washington in Free Agency to ensure we wouldn't miss Demps if he were to leave.
The 7th round pick loss isn't massive, we've still got 2 in the bag to play around with. The pick up of Blount is an interesting one. He exploded a couple of seasons back, but has lost favor in the Buccaneers offense since the breakout performances of Doug Martin.
So it's a win-win for both sides. Both guys involved with the trade weren't needed on their team anymore. Now the Bucs have a kick returner (whens he's not doing Track & Field), and the Pats get a tough Running Back, who'll be good on short yardage situations, leaving Ridley still to be the main guy, and Vereen still to be the main pass catcher out of the back field.
