More On Emmanuel Sanders

The Steelers have matched the offer made by the Patriots to Emmanuel Sanders. Of course the Patriots didn't make it very hard on them by offering only a measely amount of money. The Patriots always try to win the "battle of the contract" by trying to get the players they want only if the price is right.

If the Patriots wanted Emmanuel Sanders then they should have ponied up and blew the Steelers out of the water with an offer that the Steelers couldn't match. It's as simple as this: the Patriots have a lot of money and the Steelers don't. The Patriots needed to put the Steelers in a fight that they couldn't win, but they didn't. They tried to be cute and get Sanders at the price they wanted, period.

Sanders seemed like a strange option to me as it was because he offers pretty much the same thing Amendola does and that's the short-to-intermediate passing game. Big Ben's pleading to keep Sanders obviously worked so the Patriots miss out on another potential threat for Brady. I don't look at it as a huge loss because he was so similar to Amendola, but I do wonder why the Patriots always try to do this. It started with Lawyer Milloy to Asante Samuel and Richard Seymour and most recently Welker and eventually becomes low-balling potential free agents.

Sometimes you have to pay for talent and if they evaluated Sanders as a talent at the NFL level then, as a fan, I want them to do everything they can to get him. They surely didn't do that and it may come down to them drafting a wide receiver which is not their strong suit.
