Miami signs Vaughn Martin, pushing hard for Brent Grimes

What the hell, Dolphins?

The clear winners of free-agency so far are the Miami Dolphins. They've continued to make big move after big move and that's only continued today. The 'Phins signed defensive lineman Vaughn Martin, formerly of the Chargers, whom the Patriots had some interest in as well.

They are also making a push to sign one of the best corners available on the market, Brent Grimes.

"According to Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.com, the Dolphins are zeroing in to sign Grimes," writes ESPN's James Walker. "...a contract could be completed 'soon.'”

Miami even got a shiny new logo this off-season
Grimes would be another solid move. As we wrote about here, he was a ProFootballFocus darling and was poised to become one of the top corners in the league before his injury last year. The injury is obviously what is scaring some teams away.

A duo of Aqib Talib and Brent Grimes would be amazing in the Patriots secondary. The only reason I can think of for the Patriots not to act is that they are still waiting to potentially sign Dwight Freeney or John Abraham, a position which they should view as a bigger need after locking up Talib.

The Dolphins have been making great looking moves, but so did the Bills last off-season. We all know that free agency winners rarely turn into winners on the field. The NFL is about quarterback play, if Ryan Tannehill can take the next step, I'll be convinced that the Dolphins are a threat to the AFC East throne. Until then however, I think the Patriots are safe at the top.
