Greg Jennings turned down the Patriots
Yesterday, Greg Jennings chose to follow the money and sign with the Minnesota Vikings for five years and $47.5 million ($18 million guaranteed). Since the Vikings really don't have much offensive talent, it looks like the veteran chose to cash out. With a Super Bowl ring on his finger already, can you blame the guy?
Scheduled to average $9.5 million per year, Jennings reportedly turned down both the Green Bay Packer and New England Patriots. Green Bay offered the WR $8 million per year and the Pats put $6 million per year on the table.
Both teams offered Jennings less money but have elite quarterbacks in Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady, respectively. The legendary QBs would give Jennings the best chance of winning another Super Bowl as well as better stats that would define the latter portion of Jennings career. By joining the Vikings, Jennings will be thrown to by either Christian Ponder or Matt Cassel, who was just picked up. Both, as of now, are sub-par.
As stated above, Jennings already has a Super Bowl championship under his belt to go with his notoriety, so it looks like he chose to cash out. At this point in his career, as he has already reached the ultimate goal, you can't really blame the guy for wanting to get as much money as he can. Looks like him and Adrian Peterson are going to put the team on their backs.
