Maybe Chung will forever be known as the guy that the Patriots - kind of - passed up Clay Matthews for, as they traded back to the second round in the 2009 draft. They received the pick from Kansas City in exchange for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel. What a great trade that turned out to be for everyone.
Chung's career in New England will be remembered as one full of inconsistency and injuries. He barely played his first year in 2009. He could barely stay on the field due to health the next two years but did show some encouraging signs.
Last year kind of sealed the deal. Chung became an outright liability in pass coverage, then got injured and eventually replaced as a starting safety. Patriots fans saw this coming from a mile away. He only played two snaps in the AFC Chamionship game as Mike Reiss notes. Perhaps Chung will have some success with the coach from his almamater, Chip Kelly.
Another draft pick in the secondary that didn't quite pan out...
