Michael Irvin: Put Belichick's name on the Super Bowl Trophy
Hell yeah, I like this idea!
Boston Herald:
Despite what Antonio Cromartie thinks, Bill Belichick is undeniably one of the greatest coaches of all time.
Belichick's record with the Patriots: 139-53
Lombardi's record with Green Bay: 89-29-4
The records stack up. Plus there's these three words, "salary cap era".
Unfortunately, I think NFL fans outside of New England would get pretty angry if they did this. There's that whole, other teams don't like the one team that wins all the time. Plus they still hold the spygate thing against the Pats.
"Lombardi/Belichick" doesn't exactly have the nicest ring to it, but if this ever happened that would be great. Bill Belichick likely will go down as the greatest coach of all time, if anyone deserves to go on there with Lombardi, it's him.
Boston Herald:
“I think the world of Belichick,” [Michael] Irvin told the Herald recently. “I told him this, ‘Man, if it was up to me, that (Super Bowl) trophy would be called the Lombardi/Belichick.’ I don’t care what they think. It would be called the Lombardi/Belichick. That’s how good he is to do what he’s doing in this day and age, what the league is now.
“I would call it the Lombardi/Belichick.”
