Jeff Demps era short lived for now, placed on IR



This is not the new IR where a player can return later on in the season. Said player must make the initial 53 man roster for that (thinking Visanthe Shiancoe might be a candidate for that spot). This means that Jeff Demps will not suit up for the Patriots this season in a very surprising and also disappointing move today.

Demps had injured himself very late in the final preseason game while returning a kick. (What the play here). After the game he told report he was fine, and it did not seem serious.

That doesn't appear to be the case, as it's likely Demps would have missed some time otherwise the team would not have placed him on season ending injured reserve.

This is a real shame as the Olympian Demps could have brought a lot of explosion to the Patriots kicking game, and perhaps even the ground game. He was just getting into football shape after spending time in London for the Olympics, so he obviously wasn't as much up to speed as the rest of the team. That could've factored into this decision as well.
