Dane Fletcher Waived

Dane Fletcher was waived by the Patriots yesterday. Britt Davis is going with him as well. Davis was excess flesh in the receiving corps and I doubt the Pats will miss him. Fletcher was definitely set to be a contributor for this team though. He had the versatility that Belichick loves in his depth chart guys.


Fletcher played 22% of the defensive snaps last year. I have to believe that number would have dropped off this year with all the new additions at D-end and linebacker, but he was also a capable special teamer and an all around hard worker that combined with his bargain price, makes him the sort of player that any team would to add.


On the plus side, despite the fact that I believe any team would like to add a Dane Fletcher, I do not believe he will be claimed off waivers. There are literally dozens of undrafted free agent linebackers who will work hard for a practice squad or special teams spot this year and wont have to sit on IR. Fletcher is a solid guy for the Patriots and I think waiving him means he'll be on IR this year and back in camp next season.
