Could Alfonzo Dennard hit the Injured Reserve?

Rookie Cornerback Alfonzo Dennard still has yet to practice since the second day of camp after injuring his hamstring. As I pointed out in this piece highlighting rookies with rough starts, the more time you miss in training camp, the worse off you will be.

There just isn't enough time to evaluate players with the less practices due to the new CBA. We've seen time and time again that players, especially rookies, who miss a lot of camp usually don't have things turn out in their favor.

A large part of Shane Vereen's inability to get a ball in his hands last year was the fact that he missed almost all of training camp due to an injury and a delay in signing his contract.

We saw a similar excuse given to Taylor Price last year, who missed a good chunk of time in his rookie year back in 2010 due to his school's graduation date and NFL rules.

The possibility exists that we will see nothing from Alfonzo Dennard this year, which really is a shame. A lot of Pats fans were excited to see him in action, seeing as he was viewed as such a steal in the seventh round.

Though of course, him being only a seventh round pick means the team will likely have no hesitation in cutting him either.

For a pass defense as bad as it was last year, this team might need all the help they can get in the secondary. Here's to hoping Dennard can get back on the field soon.
