A look back at Super Bowl XXXVI

For some, Feb. 3, 2002 may seem like yesterday. For others, it may seem like many moons ago, but the fact remains that it was the greatest day in Patriots' history. Below is a video of New England's final drive that culminated in the franchise's first Super Bowl victory.

Here is another clip of Adam Vinatieri's game-winning kick.

A few things to point out:

Although the game happened just over a decade ago, it already looks outdated. Between the NFL using Adidas uniforms, to the old astro-turf at the Superdome, to Fox carrying the Super Bowl, the whole feel seems odd. Adding to it all is the incoherence (I mean, commentary), from John Madden and Pat Summerall. Summerall sounds senile at the very end of the game, but in his defense it was a confusing ending. There was two seconds left on the clock after the kick went through the uprights, and today no more than five seconds get taken off the clock for a successful field goal attempt. Nonetheless, Pats fans will take it. Rams fans in St. Louis may still be hoping for the Patriots to kick the ball off. I think WFAN's radio host Steve Somers said it best, "I was sitting in my chair until 2 in the morning for the final seconds to be played."
