Patriots sign sixth rounder Nate Ebner

Boston Herald:
The Patriots signed sixth-round pick Nate Ebner to a four-year contract today. Ebner is listed as a safety, but he’s a true special teamer who won’t make an impact on defense for quite some time.

The article in the Herald also gives some insight into Nate Ebner's character. Nicknamed "Leonidas" by his Ohio State teammates, Ebner was seen as one of the team's biggest leaders despite being a special teams player.

This quote from Ebner's positional coach, Paul Haynes, probably sums it up:

“He was probably the most valuable player on that whole team, the most valuable player on that whole team last year,” Haynes said strongly. “If there was a guy that we were going to go down with, it would have been Nate Ebner by far. There isn’t a coach on that staff who wouldn’t say that.”

It's rare that you pencil in a sixth rounder on the final roster, but Ebner just might be one to do it with.
